Why this tool

Why margin math matters in chat

A DM price that feels fine can still lose money once packing and shipping land.

  • Price before you reply

Check margin while the buyer is waiting, not after you already quoted a number in chat.

  • See margin and markup together

Margin is profit over selling price. Markup is profit over cost. Both show so quotes stay clear.

  • No signup

Run the numbers in the browser and move on. Nothing to install.

  • Stays on your device

Costs and prices are not uploaded. The math runs on this page only.

FAQ

Margin questions

Margin vs markup, what a good number looks like, and how this pairs with Orders App.

What is profit margin?

Margin is profit as a share of selling price: ((selling - cost) / selling) x 100. If you sell at 100 and cost is 60, margin is 40%.

How is markup different from margin?

Markup is profit as a share of cost: ((selling - cost) / cost) x 100. Same 100 sell and 60 cost gives about 66.7% markup. Margin and markup are not the same percentage.

Should I include packaging in cost?

Yes, if you pay for it. Use the additional costs field for packing, labels, or shipping you do not charge separately.

What is a good margin for chat sellers?

It depends on the category. Many handmade and niche sellers aim for 40%+ gross margin after materials. Track your own number over time rather than chasing one industry average.

Can I solve for selling price?

Yes. Enter cost (and extras), type a target margin %, then apply. The tool fills a selling price that hits that margin.

Is the tool free?

Yes. No signup. Orders App is separate if you later want DM orders captured into a list automatically.
